Changes in towing rules make it easier for New South Wales Sailors

Yachting NSW is pleased to let you know that as a result of representations made to the government, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have recently announced changes that will make it easier to tow a yacht interstate.

These changes have been designed to improve consistency with Victoria and Queensland, and to enhance road safety by encouraging use of the most appropriate vehicle and trailer towing combination.

Previously the law restricted sailors wishing to travel with their ‘trailer sailors’ and also affected those who regularly competed throughout Australia in such classes as the International Etchells.

Stealthy – Still Setting the Pace

StealthyHigh-performance Brisbane small boat designer Allan Carwardine set a high standard in Australian Sports Boat racing when he introduced his super fast Stealth 8 to the regatta racing scene. 

Stealthy which he skippered to a high list of impressive results in major events on Moreton Bay and during the Airlie Beach Race Week has continued to show her class under her present owner the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club skipper Bob Cowan.
Skipper Bob Cowan who regards the Airlie Beach Race Week as the best place to test your pace is again among the early entries to contest the 2012 class championship over the Whitsunday Sailing Club courses from August 10-16.

Australian Sports Boat and Trailable Yacht Championships preview

ASBA NationalsMany of Australia’s fastest sports boats will be racing on Hobart’s River Derwent over the Easter weekend, with Bellerive Yacht Club hosting the 2012 Australian Sports Boat and Trailable Yacht Championships. 

A fleet of 14 custom-designed, high-performance sports boats will be racing for the Australian Sports Boat Association national championships, sailing under the SMS (Sportsboat Measurement System) handicaps, with entries from Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.

Characteristically, these sports boats have light displacement hulls and carry exceptionally big rigs in comparison to their overall length. They are exceptionally fast downwind under their huge, masthead spinnakers.

ASBA goes the whole Hog

Hogs BreathThe Australian Sports Boat Association (ASBA) is as happy as a pig in mud to announce a new partnership with Hogs Breath Café which kicks off this weekend at the ASBA QLD Sports Boat Titles in Brisbane. 

ASBA and Hogs Breath are determined to put some fun back into sailing events and will spread this message around the country over the next 12 months at events such as the Festival of Sail in Geelong, ASBA National Titles in Hobart, Geographe Bay Race Week in Busselton, Airlie Beach Race Week and state titles in most states.
